Using stories, historical photographs, and song.

The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, when over 200,000 people peacefully demonstrated in the nation’s capital for civil rights and economic equality.  The event, in the centennial year of the Emancipation Proclamation,  featured speeches and performances by well-known civil rights leaders and included the famous I Have a Dream speech delivered by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Lincoln Memorial.  The March on Washington had an important impact on the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.  Using stories, historical photographs, and song, Ms. Briley-Strand brings this significant period in civil rights history to life.  A question and answer session follows the presentation.

Reviews:  Gwendolyn Briley-Strand is a captivating orator with a beautiful singing voice.  She recently shared some of the history of the 1963 March on Washington at an employee event resulting in rave reviews. Not only did she keep us all riveted for nearly an hour, she also showed her feisty and compassionate personality when answering questions or responding to comments after the performance. Gwendolyn Briley-Strand is an incredible talent who clearly takes pride in educating through entertainment – what a fabulous combination! – I’ve also had the pleasure of seeing her in the Harriet Tubman story. A masterpiece!
